Interbellum Transport Aviation

Since its invention, aircraft have aroused great interest from the armed forces. The possibility of moving through the air at high speed and over long distances looked, from the point of view of the military, very tempting. And if fighters and bombers have the honor of directly participating in battle operations, military transport aircraft are designed to perform other, but no less important tasks. They are used for the rapid delivery of troops, weapons and other military cargo, and are capable of transferring to hard-to-reach areas (for example, located in the highlands or behind enemy lines).

At the dawn of aviation, military transport aircraft were absent as a class, and ordinary civilian aircraft were used to transport military cargo. Then the machines created by the modernization of serial bombers and civilian aircraft became widespread. In the decades between the world wars, military transport aviation learned to perform new functions, such as delivering and dropping airborne troops or towing military gliders. The military transport aircraft created during these years during the Second World War played an important role, sometimes determining the outcome of entire operations.
